The Fishes, the Fishes

Second day in Port Douglas we went snorkeling out on the Great Barrier Reef! We went out on the Calypso, which had been recommended to us by a couple of friends. Hat tip to Charlie, the captain- a really nice guy who clearly enjoys his job and he wished me a happy birthday (it was my birthday in the United States that day). :) The tour was nice- especially because there weren’t very many people on the boat. It was a bit cloudy on the reef due to the cyclone, and you could definitely see some damage- broken coral and such- but overall, it was really amazing. Sadly, I ended up getting out of the water rather frequently due to motion sickness (and not even from the boat! From the combination of floating on top of waves and turning my head left and right every other second. Bah!), but I still got to see plenty. So beautiful!

(note: if these are amazingly colorful, they were taken by the Calypso staff with a proper underwater camera. If they're so-so, probably taken by JR with a less amazing underwater camera.)
