Wind. Lots of wind. Lots and lots of really really strong, horrible wind. Hurricane type wind, I would venture to say (though I may or may not be exaggerating- I’ve never actually experienced hurricane wind). It literally swept me off my feet at one point. And I fell. And JR laughed at me. But could not take a picture because it was too windy.
We stopped in Invercargill for a night on our way between Manapouri and Dunedin, by way of the Catlins. Boring town- and it looks like it’s hurting economically- but it had a fantastic brewery! Easily the best we visited in New Zealand so far (next to Epic, of course J). (Review will be on MBR at some point.)
So the Catlins- very pretty, but a little hard to enjoy because of the damn wind! At one point we actually thought pebbles were pelting us in the face- but it turned out to be rain! It was hitting us that hard! It kind of sucked. We ended up skipping quite a few sites because of it, but oh well. It was pretty from the car. :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Did you celebrate at the brewery - St. Patrick's Day, I mean, or is it not celebrated there with quite the jubilation of here? Good that neither of you blew off the cliff! I've been checking daily for an update - Pauline, too! (among your other fans!) Weather is warming up for your return - The robins are back - a good sign. Seen any more wildlife? Like a kangaroo in Australia?
